The Human Spirit

The Power of the Human Spirit

I was reading my book by Steven Scott, The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, and Happiness. He was writing about the right way to offer criticism. Now there’ an interesting subject. How easy is it for us to accept criticism. Even more important, how to offer it the right way. He referenced a verse in Proverbs 18:14. It reads, ” The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?” That verse really got me thinking. I thought about my past and when were the lowest points of my life. I can think of a couple times when I thought my spirit was just crushed. I felt as if I was broken….so what comes next I thought. Where do I go from here? What’s the use? Oh I never thought of hurting myself, but checking out for a while crossed my mind.

Have you been there before? Can you think of times in your life when you were at rock bottom and felt like you might just give up? Was your spirit ever broken? I know in my life, the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has sustained me through it all. I believe for most of us, the human spirit is practically indestructible. Somehow we make it through whatever comes our way. There’s a quote by C.C. Scott that says, “The Human Spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.” It is essential to our survival in this world that we have a strong spirit. This is why King Solomon wrote about it.

The Power of The Human SpiritSo how do we make sure our spirit remains strong? Wow, that’s a loaded question. I’m sure many of you reading this have some answers or ideas about that. I’d love for you to share them. Because of my military and police background, I tend to believe that if we have a plan to live our lives by, a plan with an ultimate objective, we can better cope with whatever comes our way. You see, when life happens to us to throw us off track, no matter how bad it gets, we see it as a temporary set back, a detour on our way towards our ultimate goal. Since we have a firm path to follow, we can make our way back to it. This plan, this objective firmly implanted in our minds, keeps us focused on what we need to do. Proverbs 27:10 says, “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” This mindset of planning and preparedness helps shield our spirit from losing hope and wanting to give up.

That doesn’t make our trials and tribulations any less painful. But it helps us maintain hope for the future because we know where we’re headed, and by golly, we intend to get there! Nothing will stop us! That’s the attitude we must have. And please, don’t try to do it on your own. Part of having a plan is setting up your support team. Friends, family, trusted advisors, information, tools, strategies, you get my drift. Have those in place whether you are in trouble or not. Don’t wait until things fall apart to put your support team in place. Proverbs 18:24 says, “…but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” That’s the kind of support you need.

Let Adversity Be Your Friend

One last thought on all this. Let adversity be your friend. What?!? I know…who wants adversity as a friend. Take the attitude that you will learn from whatever happens to you. It will only make you stronger. There’s always something we can learn from our set backs if we have an open mind to it. Again in Proverbs 17:3 it states, “Fire test the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart.” You want a strong heart and will…a strong human spirit? Embrace the adversity, look into it, defeat it, and be stronger as a result. Again, I know it’s tough. But what else are you going to do? Give up? Come on now.

So what does this all have to do with money and getting out of debt. Money has been the ruin and devastation of so many families and businesses. Why? Most of the time it has been due to poor planning. I know, some financial situations can’t be helped. The great recession of 2008 wasn’t totally our fault. If you lost your job because of it, that wasn’t your fault. If the real estate market tanked and your house was now worth less than you owed by a lot, that wasn’t necessarily your fault. But, how much you, your family, or your business suffered may have been some of your fault. And that’s because the vast majority of us in America carry way too much debt and too little savings to shield ourselves from financial disaster. What should be a financial set back becomes disastrous.

What you need to know is that getting your financial house prepared for the future isn’t that difficult. It really isn’t…if you have a plan that gets you out of debt and keeps you out of debt. And this plan also allows you to continue to finance your life (cars, vacations, college, business, etc) while at the same time prepare a future income for retirement, an income that’s tax free. All this without any extra money out of your budget. You can put a shield around your financial life that can safeguard you, your family, and your business from financial calamity. Think how much peace of mind that would give you. When you have a plan like this, financial adversity merely becomes a temporary set back on your path to financial prosperity. Folks, I want you to own your life, not rent it. I want you to live debt free and retire tax free.

  1. What’s the difference in your program and the “Bank on Yourself” program? I’ve spoken to someone in that program and they are waiting on me to get back with them and then in the mist of my search for Nelson Nash’s book, I came across your You Tube video and I have not been able to move. You’ve got me glued. I want to create a warehouse of wealth, and I am going to despite my obstacles of being disabled and the fact that I can’t get my newly wed husband to wrap his head around this concept.

    • The Bank on Yourself program is based on the Infinite Banking Concept started by Nelson Nash in the early 80s. I read Pamela Yellen’s Book (Bank on Yourself) several years ago. I am a graduate of the Infinite Banking Concept Institute given by Neslon Nash himself along with this team. I’ve read 14 books on the concept including Building Your Warehouse of Wealth written by Nelson Nash. In fact Nelson Nash autographed the book for me when I met with him. I based my video partially on that book. I tried to explain the concept in the video in a way it would make sense to anyone looking at it. Maybe your husband can look at the video if he hasn’t already. I will be happy to discuss your particular situation with you and your husband to see how this can work for you.
